A Gasp of Breath into the Fog

Paris exploded;
terror like shockwaves
reached around the world,
it’s like we never got over that first shot –
but honestly,
do you know what else happened that day?
Are you aware of the warcries being spun out into space
like a nightmare lullaby in a planetary music box named Earth
that when you
crack through the atmosphere
the song is going full blast
in random patches
and covered by the media
that blasts it out and builds on itself to keep itself going.
Dystopian future?
We just have a veneer covering up their true motives;
Oh how can I not see
the greed
between the lines when every time the television chimes,
another castastrophy has rocked the world,
but that may rely on your sources,
it’s all so jumbled right now;
why?

Poem written during Face the Nation interview with Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister

Bombs blasting back and forth

This fight seems to have gone on for all time;

periods of peace being as fleeting as a thought through a mind.

I feel like a voyeur

watching your suffering across a screen

How will you know you’ve won?

I’m sorry, but there is no achievement in sight

Fluctuating between calm and threat

“Look I’m not going to go into the details, but sometimes people just want to kill you.”

The ideal to coexist

seems like a naive sentiment

in the face

of the destruction

on both sides.

Something crucial

seems to have been lost

in the details.

Rebuttal- a poem written after watching a follow up interview on Face the Nation with Palestinian Ambassador to the US Maen Rashid Areika

Fighting over the right to be

People who are just living their lives and make it from day to day while the military and governments and storms of hate rage in violence that upheave any sense of peace:

I have the utmost respect for your bravery to carry on.

I worry like hell about the constantly   increasing amounts of worldwide anger and violence.

I am constantly reminded of the variety of emotions and experiences humans go through everyday.

Life,

with all its tumultuous curves,

is baffling; how can there ever be complete, world-wide peace when you consider we all have a right to seek our desires.

But why do so many believe violence and rage against another is the only way to reach their goals?

Editorial- an afterthought

Forgive my naivety that the optimistic part of me believes we can all live together on this Earth.

The cynical side of me is darkly laughing as it watches people, groups, governments, parts of the world constantly war with each other.

Here I am again in my favorite nook
looking out to a familiar scene

wondering why we never or why no one has ever put bubbles into that fountain

thinking of times with boyfriend to come

(ta-dunt-dun…i really need a drum kit to follow me around)

listening to librarians soft chatter

and an old mans breathing next to me as he slowly taps out an email

perhaps to his long-lost daughter

but i’m romanticizing things again

i’m pretty sure he is trying to figure out how to set up an online account

times are a movin’

things are changin’

life is pattering on

time is in so i can be paid

zines have been spoke of

fiction to be sent

pages turning and newspapers rustling

articles of beautiful cars being written

three blocks away my mom soaks into another episode of Gunsmoke

71 degrees Fahrenheit the day after Christmas, ahhh Florida I love ya

birds gliding on the wind

simple pleasures when you stop to look around.

Happy Anniversary…Again

Logged in to see that it was 5 years ago, in a boring high school class as my 17-year-old self created this blog as a place for my words. Let’s see what has changed:

  • Graduated High School
  • Got into college
  • Focused on what I love; literature and creative writing.
  • Have four notebooks with notes for four books
  • many completed short stories
  • many poems
  • created a multimedia poetry project (See: Words From Paint link)
  • Finished a manuscript for a poetry book
  • Graduated from college with a BA; in four years
  • Internship at a magazine publishing company
  • Hired as the Assistant Editor for the magazine publishing company
  • helped launch brand new magazine, First Coast magazine, along with the three other magazines we put out
  • go on photo shoots a lot
  • coordinate and assign stories
  • write articles
  • edit
  • grown up things

yeah, that’s why I haven’t posted as much as I used to.

Please stay tuned.

Thanks for sticking around.

Time flies, man.

Circles building, words languishing, and views of people blurring back and forth like birdies flying around your head.
Days are passing.
Mischiefs are managed.
yet they always panic because they forgot to set the alarm
But no, that can’t be the problem. That’s too simple.
The boxes are piling, the paper is weighing, and yet the words still aren’t satisfied.

Constantly shifting between this & that
while keeping each of their interests straight in my head.
Keeping in one game while chasing myself into a new one while I am still in curve one of the greater race. Gotta hold out hope it isn’t just a 50 yard dash–I’m ready to go the scenic route.

Lots of copy! Lots of paper! Lots of names! Lots of style!
Maybe just not your style. Words are the game, the race, the greatest prize, and the highest honor. Composing them carefully or letting them flow free & wild & obscene. Exploring the imagination to build creative profile and a work style.

Keeping my head true to fiction, but starting out fresh with my old friend nonfiction journalism.

What was that old girl scout saying?

Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other is gold.

Guess that can be said about my old friend the written word. Just trying out different genres & enjoying them each as I write more & more.

This blog archives some of my poetry along with the random & lyrical prose that I produce for content. I also have a page on here called My Art that has chronicled past art projects I have been, or had been, working on. That page has not been updated in what seems like forever, even though I’ve made much art since then. But now, with the series of blogs in conjunction with HashtagOctothorpe that will start after this post, Words From Paint takes a large 18×24 acrylic painting I finished March 2012 and accompanies sections with narrative fiction, poetry, and microfiction.

Excess Paint Expanded.

The text that goes along with the pictures is not supposed to fix the meaning of the images, but instead to open up the interpretation of what could be. The stories are just one story that could go with each scene. Later perhaps I will come back and create entirely new stories for each section of images, but for now they stand as influenced stories to expand the meaning of the paint.

I will reblog the finished link to HashtagOctothorpe when it is up.

Enjoy!

To another dimension
To another scene
To flip the page
To another room
To another world
To a place not quite like this one
To your room
To the moon
To a fairy circle
To a forest full of ancient trees
To a dirty forgotten city where the artists gather and laugh over their bottles of wine with the sweet scent of tobacco wafting from their pipes
To you
To a place where I can just sit and watch or paint my surroundings
To the rain
To the fire

Wherever we’re going in this crazy Life of ours,
please promise me you’ll carry me through with you
because I always carry you with me.

Issue 12

Enjoy some very interesting fiction and take in the paintings of this new edition of the literary journal!

I’m not listed as a Reader in this one, but I did help choose the Reader’s choice story, but the one I chose is one of the Editor’s choice, the second one in that subset.

Go check it out!

(also, school and reading and life has carried me away…shall return over break probably :])

goes leaping across the page.

no style, no form, just pure literary fun.

mothers are dancing back and forth with toddlers on the hip.

an old man reads his daily newspaper, and can’t believe the news with a shake of the hand and the murmur of descent.

a homeless man is dozing, a book turned open as just a ruse,

another man is reading. he looks like he rather be boozin’.

people searching for movies to escape the heat.

librarians beaming to see their place so full.

this little writer is trying to get busy and is using this poem to jump-start the feeling,

so I can get back to my book that I have been writing.

a glance at my schedule for fall, oh boy where has gone the time,

only one professor has posted the books needed, and he needs us to buy nine books!

Nine! watch, the others will require the same.

oh its to be expected, as an English major.

and to think that this time next year, I’ll be a college graduate.

Oh wonderful impulse where will you take me next?
